Holiday Decor

Corinne needed to be decorated too:

Rockin' and a Rollin'

Recently, Corinne has discovered the wonder that is her feet. She'll hang onto them, and even pull her socks off.

The same week that she discovered her feet, she realized that she could rock her legs to the side. I was quite excited, thinking that rolling would soon follow.

She has given us a few "almost" rolls, where she'll flip onto her side, and then give up. Each time, I get the camera out to record her "first roll". But, mostly, I just film her crying because she wants to be picked up.

Last night, M was playing with her on the floor. He put her on her stomach. I made a comment about how I give it 5 seconds before she starts crying. I waited there for about 10 seconds, and no tears, so I turned around to put the remnants of dinner back in the fridge. I didn't have my back turned less than a few seconds when M says, "She rolled over!" So, I quickly run into the next room to grab the camera to see if she would do it again on film. I came back into the room (not less than 3 seconds later), and he says "She rolled over again!" This time, from belly to back. So, I missed seeing it again.

However, hope was not lost. If she could roll over twice within a one minute span, I knew she could do it again, so camera at the ready, I filmed. And filmed. And filmed. And didn't get one roll over (I did, however, get a cameo from the cat's butt). The little stinker (Corinne, not the cat butt, but I guess it works there too). I swear, she waited until my back was turned to roll over.

This morning, with a freshly charged camera battery, I decided to try it again. I put her on her back and tried to entice her to roll over. It took about 20 minutes, but she gave me one good roll over from back to belly. The attempt at putting her on her belly to roll over onto her back was an epic fail.

Kitty Zen Picture of the Day

"Turkey? I don't see a turkey."

Thanksgiving

First, we had to go to Costco for provisions:

We had a house full of guests (which meant mom's and dad's arms could catch a break from holding Corinne 24/7). Then, it was time to party!

Corinne and her Aunt Alice (Corinne was digging the English accent):

Did I mention that mine and M's arms got a break?

And, doing Facetime with her Uncle Jeremy and Aunt Jill during Thanksgiving dinner:

A few hours later:

And, a few hours after that (milk coma):

We tried feeding Corinne "people food". It wasn't a success. We tried mashed potatoes (it went in her mouth and promptly right back out again), guacamole (same outcome), and bananas (shockingly, same outcome). The tongue thrust reflex evidently has no plans to stop anytime soon.

Apparently, preemies have more "food texture adversion" issues than term babies, so it is encouraged to introduce foods between six months actual and six months adjusted. So, we'll keep trying. I'm still not on board with food this early, but I do want to avoid the adversion issues.

The day after Thanksgiving, we went into the city for a "Festival of Lights" event:

Tree Lighting

Now that we have a kid, we can go to all the fun "family" events without looking like the weird "why are they here if they don't have kids they must be pedophiles" couple. Not that Corinne will remember any of this stuff yet, but it's still fun to go and not have people thinking we're there to kidnap their kid.

A few miles away, Santa came and lit a huge tree. So, we went. It was a kid-a-palooza. Corinne dressed in her holiday finest for the event, and got many "ZOMG! How cuuuuute!" comments from strangers:

So much to look at!

Waiting, and waiting, and waiting for Santa (we are fairly convinced he stopped at the pub for a brewsky and got caught up watching the game):

Santa finally came!

6 Months

Age: Six Months
Weight: 11lb 11oz (2-5th percentile on the 4 month charts, 50th percentile on the 4 month preemie charts)
Height: 23.5 inches (25th percentile on the 4 month charts, 75th percentile on the 4 month preemie charts)

Likes: Toys that spin, "standing" (with help), her feet, Sophie The Rubber Giraffe (overpriced dog toy)
Dislikes: Sleeping alone, getting put in the carseat (once she's in, then she's fine), being ignored, waking up from naps, any sort food that isn't milk or formula

About two weeks or so before she turned 6 months, I was concerned because she wasn't displaying ANY interest in holding or touching toys. She was content to just look at them. In addition, rolling over was a completely foreign concept. She wasn't even trying or remotely interested.  Her sounds were still cooing, she was not yet babbling by putting two separate sounds together (da, oo-ah, etc). I knew that at this point in her adjusted age (almost 4 months adjusted), she should be doing these things. I told the preemie social worker, when she came out for her monthly visit, and she agreed with my assement, so we got a referral to a state run program for early intervention.

However, within a few weeks, Corinne started showing interest in toys, and she's almost rolling over (she can roll onto her side). I have met with 4 state employess for the early intervention program, all to fill out paperwork and answer the.same.questions.over.and.over.again (totally efficent, of course).

I'm still keeping the appointments for ealy intervention (physcial/occupational therapy). I still think Corinne is a tiny bit behind, on certain fine and gross motor skills, so hopefully the therapy will give me an idea of what games to play with her that are good for her development. And, I figure, I'd rather do a few month of therapy now than a few years later on down the road.

Preemie Mom Fail

I went to Ross (dress for less) yesterday. I haven't been to a Ross in over 10 years. I was amazed at the deals they had! Corinne was content just walking around, so I took my time, and checked out each section...women's men's, baby's, etc.

Right next to the babies section, there were the cutest little outfits. Little Santa dresses and little shirts with cute sayings. They looked exactly like baby clothes but they were very small. I got excited, thinking Ross had this great Preemie section with lots of super cute clothes (cute preemie clothes are actually hard to come by, unless you want to spend $50 for a dress online). I was excidedly thumbing through the outfits, bummed that I didn't know about this gold mine when Corinne was tiny enough to fit into those outfits.

Then it dawned on me. I wasn't in the preemie section; I was in the pet section.

However, if I have another preemie, I'm totally shopping in the pet section. I'll just keep mum about where I acquired such small, perfect outfits.

Obama's stance on Corinne

The White House sends their good wishes since we made another American:

Co-sleeping

The best part of my day is waking up with Corinne. She's so coo-ey, smiley, and snuggly in the morning. I love unwrapping her from the swaddle as she gives me the biggest smile and laugh. It is, without a doubt, the best part of my day. If I could package up those moments and sell them, I'd be a billionaire.

For this reason, when we get to a point where she needs to go to her own room, it's going to be a sad, sad day for me.

On a side note, guess whose umbilical hernia went away?

And, this is just a funny picture. She's taken a liking to this position:

Thank goodness for digital cameras

I remember when...
...we had a roll of film, and once we used up that roll, that was it. No more photographs. My parents would give me one roll of 24 count film, and I had to make it last all week when I was at camp. Many times, I rationed the film so carefully, only wanting to capture the "perfect shot" that I had 18 pictures still lieft to take on the last day of camp.

Thankfully, with the era of digital cameras, this is no more. I took 92 pictures today. Some are not so good, some are good, and some are great. Of course, with such a darling subject to shoot, most ended up in the good or great pile.

Here's a sampling of how Corinne and I spent our day.

We went for a walk and saw the fall colors:

Walks put babies to sleep:

Then, we took some fall photos:

Thank goodness I'm not restricted by rolls of film anymore! It must have been so hard to be a parent in the film age.
