Costco
Now that Evan has switched his mindset from "Zomg! Are you trying to poison me, woman?" to "Hey, this stuff is pretty good. Gimme more!" in regards to people food, I find myself sharing my meals three ways: me, Corinne, and now Evan. Today we ate our way through Costco, enjoying a protein smoothie, chicken soup, trail mix (well that one was more just Corinne and I), Mac n cheese, green olives, and finally a piece of pizza at the food court.

24 months
Thank God these monthly pics are over. Over!
My one remaining pair of eyeglasses, as she demolished the other (my favorite) one. Sigh. I'm realizing kids aren't expensive because they cost a lot; rather they are expensive because they break expensive crap.
On her actual birthday, I made her a fudge peanut butter cake (delicious, thank you Pinterest), and she unwrapped a few gifts.
| Yes, that is Christmas wrapping paper. |
| That cake doesn't stand a chance. |
Length: 32 inches (10th percentile)
Ah, the 24 month mark. Also known as the time when I can stop trying to do mental math on the spot when a stranger inquires how old she is "she's 22 months, no, 23 months. Let's see...she was 17 months in December, add four, but then take away two for being early, carry the 1, throw in an imaginary number in there and....she's pi years old."
Now, I can just say "she's two". Unless the place wants to charge for 2+ years, then you bet I'm still going to go by adjusted age. In that case, she's one for the next few months. Or maybe until she starts fitting into size 24 month clothing and looking like she's two. Which should be in another 6 months or so. Or maybe when she enters high school. Whichever comes first.
Corinne has started hoarding. In the morning, she can't go down the stairs until she goes into the playroom and stuffs her arms full of toys for the long journey downstairs. Which proves interesting, as she needs two hands to walk down the stairs: one to hold my hand, and the other to hold onto the wall/railing. The hamsters in her head are furiously working trying to figure out how she can carry enough toys to fill an aisle at TRU but also walk down the stairs at the same time. At which point, the hamsters go into overload, aided on by a mom who just wants to take her downstairs and pee, before running back up the stairs to fetch a crying Evan, and tantrum #1 usually starts. Sometimes she'll let me hold her toys for her (and when her eyes are averted, I quickly chuck them over her head, behind her, at the top of the stairs), but other times she.wants.to.do.it.herself. Oy. Momma just wants to pee.
Also, when leaving the house, she'll grab a toy to take with her. Then, halfway down the driveway, she realizes she doesn't want that toy anymore and flings it to the side.
It would be interesting being a toddler for a day. When I get bored with my phone, or it runs out of battery power, I could just roll down the window and chuck it out onto the freeway. And then someone gives me a water bottle and a few crackers.
Tonight, she wanted to take her shopping cart to bed with her. Her Herculean efforts to carry it up the stairs failed, so Matt took it upstairs for her. He set it in her room and put her in bed. The poor man, he got it all wrong. She promptly got up, dragged it INTO bed with her and tried to snuggle with it. A shopping cart. You know, because they make good sleeping partners.
She is so damn funny at this age. She has started babbling up a storm, and you can really tell she is having an in depth conversation with you about how to solve the problems of the world by the non stop babbling and inflections in her voice. I can see that sometimes she is really trying to tell us something and we just don't understand, as we aren't reacting in the proper way (the proper way usually means by giving her goldfish, by the way). This results in tantrum #2.
She weighed 21lb and 4oz at her appointment on Friday. Still below the 5th percentile (she no longer will use adjusted age), but this was actually more than her expected weight was going to be, based on her established growth curve. Plus, since she was under 20lbs just a month ago due to illness, we figured she'd be below her growth curve for this appointment. Nope. Girlfriend has been packing away the food lately. Which means less food thrown on the floor. Yay for us, boo for the cat. And more frequent diaper changes.

8 months
Size: About 19ish pounds? Wearing 9m clothes, size 4 diapers.
Likes: Food is now an enjoyable experience. Something just clicked recently and he'll now eat pretty much anything. He loves getting his belly kissed. Nothing elicits more laughter than that. He's starting to reach for stuff out of his reach. So, to do so, he'll kind of pop up on one knee, almost like one knee is going to crawl. Most of the time he falls over, but I think this is the catalyst to crawling. He really enjoys chewing on the iphone. Why do both kids like the iphone so damn much?
Dislikes: Not getting a boob when he's tired. Being tired.
He starts to get tired around 7:30p, but if I put him to bed then, he'll wake up around 9p. But, if I let him sleep for 5 minutes, then keep him awake until 8:30p, he'll go down for the count. He'll then wake up anytime between 1a-3a for a snack, and then again around 6a-7a. Sometimes I can get him back to sleep after the 6a feeding, but maybe he realizes that's the only time he gets me 100% to himself (since Corinne is still asleep) and decides to stay up. He's such a happy baby in the mornings. Until around 9:30a/10:30a. Then he wants a nap. Not a long one, usually only 20-30 minutes or so. He's still on a three nap a day schedule. A short one, a long one, and a short one. It's going to be nice once he goes to a one nap schedule. I can put both kids down and enjoy a good 1-2 hours to myself each day. I could sleep, or clean, or organize, or watch TV....the possibilities are endless! But, let's be real. I'd probably sleep.
He's still what I call in the "roley poley" stage, where his natural tendency is to roll up into a little butterball. I know I only have a couple months of this stage left. Then, just like Corinne did, he'll get longer and leaner, and prefer to be stretched out instead of rolled up. He's just so round and babyish right now. Since we're still undecided on if kid#3 will be potentially joining us, I'm soaking up this stage in case it's my last.

2nd birthday party
All 4 families RSVPed yes, but the day of, two of the five kids that were coming got an ear infection and bowed out. So, since the attending guests were halved, we had lots of taco leftovers. I see tacos in our future for the next few days! Ole!
Despite the small guest list, the play room was successfully destroyed, that little table seen in the below pics washes glitter glue and markers off quite well (for the kids, I had a make-your-own bear masks activity), the cat stayed under our bed and was not murdered by curious toddlers, and Corinne was happy since she got to eat cake and drink juice. So, all in all, a good party.
It rained, so we made use of the covered porch. Man, I love that thing.
The birthday people:
We had a graduation party for an old friend of mine in the city that day as well, so I was impressed by our resourcefulness. We got home at 4p, and had the party at 5p. Due to some careful planning, everything was ready to go at 5p. ::mental fist bump::
And, since Corinne attended two parties that day, she got to eat cake twice. It was toddler heaven.
We also had a mini celebration for Matt on Friday 5/10, since that was his actual birthday.
Evan was ready to party!
Corinne was not impressed by the hats:
Corinne was coveting M's gifts and starting unwrapping a few before I intervened.
Corinne got to unwrap a couple of her gifts early:
