Lunch Date

The downside of creativity

That when the crayons are used on a surface other than paper, Corinne has to clean it off.

However, apparently this just thought her to take a wipe and scrub crayon marks, wherever they may be. After this photo was taken, she took the wipe, went over to her coloring book and tried to wipe off the crayon.

Ummmm...

Artwork

Corinne has recently discovered art. She's never shown much interest in coloring until now. Well, she had interest in eating the crayons, but now she actually used them for their (semi) intended purpose.

Thank God for washable crayons. I was able to just clean off three windows and a bookcase that had been bedazzled by Corinne and her crayons.

She displays her talent in multiple mediums: crayon, Popsicles, really anything that makes a mark.

Father's Day

I gave M the choice of having the day (well, morning) to himself or going to the beach. He opted for the latter. So, after a breakfast of a frittata and maple donuts from the only maple donut vendor in town (that the kids and I got for him as he slept him) we loaded up the gang and headed out.

It was a beautiful day. Around 80 degrees and the lake water was cool enough to be refreshing but warm enough to be comfortable.

9 months

He's able to get on all fours, sit back down, go onto his belly, sit back up, which results in him going backwards. So, within the course of 10 minutes, he can move across a room, just not in the direction he wants to.

He likes pretty much all foods, and the smell of his diaper proves that food and he are BFFs.

His iron was slightly low at his 9m appointment (9.9, and the cut off is 11), so he has to take 1.8mL of iron drops each day. He does not enjoy medicine being forced into his mouth.

Battle Wounds

We tried out a new spray pad park on Thursday. As we were walking in, I noticed the "front desk" area had a bunch of boxes of band aids. I didn't think much of it, but once we got inside, I realized why. Instead of the smooth cement, they had the rough cement, which I guess is great for eliminating the slippery factor when wet, but really bad if you take a tumble, which toddlers are probe to do, especially when they get excited.

We ended up finding out why they had so many boxes. They came in handy!

Then, on Friday at the park, I underestimated how slippery the slide would be when wet (it rained the night before). Corinne shot down it like a rocket, so fast that she even caught air at the bottom and landed about 4 feet from where the slide ended, on her back. After we got home and I changed her clothes, I saw how scratched up her back was, as the flooring of the park is these little wood chips.

Tricky little minx

Corinne has realized that if she drags a chair into the kitchen and gets up on it, she has access to all sorts of cool things: large carvings knives, hot pans, the mail, that fresh pan of brownies, the apple bowl, etc.

So after a few days of telling her that chairs belong in the family room, not the kitchen, I got tired of it and put the chairs in "time out", since she doesn't really get time out yet.

However, yesterday she realized that she can drag her table into the kitchen and it works even better to access stuff.

So I turned the table upside down.

Mom win.

Evan's first date

She's a bit older: 11m, and already walking, but there's nothing wrong with an older woman. He could learn some things.

We went over to a friend's house for a dinner/playdate. The wife was in M's MBA class.

Why? Why not?

After the shower tonight, Corinne (still naked), retrieved her sit n spin, carried it into the bathroom and proceeded to use it while naked. Why? Why not?

I didn't have my phone with me or I'd be tempted to take video.

But here's the after the shower antics:

Renaissance Festival

Today, M had to work, and I was tired of being confined to the house since Corinne was sick this last week, so I bit the bullet, bravely loaded both kids up and headed out to the renaissance festival. Normally, it takes 60-70 minutes to get there. However, I passed a sign that said "70 minute delay". So I took a bunch of creative liberties with the directions and took the scenic route. It took 1.5 hours.

The fair itself was pretty neat, and I got an excellent workout as the "streets" were not paved, I opted for the heavy duty double stroller and it was in the 80s and humid. I pushed that stroller up and down hills in dirt. So, considering I probably burned like 635,185 calories today, I'm sure I burned off the turkey leg and fudge I ate while there.

Some of the people who attend these things really get into it. Like really into it. Full costume, even in the heat. One chick was wearing a head to toe, long sleeved velvet dress. Dear God, no. I would have fainted.

While I was buying the fudge, on a whim I decided to get Corinne a lollipop. Yeah, she's not quite there yet. She tried to bite  it, then held it in her hand and gnawed on the stick part, then tried to bite it again while saliva poured out of her mouth, mixing with the sugar of the lollipop and the sticky mess dropped everywhere. She then had to decorate the stroller and her legs with the mess.

Holy stickiness, Batman. Maybe we'll try it again in another six months.
