Poison control

OI made my first call to poison control today. While I was cleaning out the bathroom, Corinne decided to go through Evan's drawers. Namely the diaper drawer. In the very back there was a box with 3 liquid glycerin suppositories. Each one contained 4mL of liquid.

Since she was silent for more than 90 seconds (never, ever trust silence) I went looking for her and found her on the floor with the three tubes. All had their caps off. One was full, one was half full, and the other was empty. There was liquid on her mouth, chest, and floor, so I figure she may have ingested some.

I looked integrated back of the package and saw "call poison control or medical help if swallowed". Oops.

Awhile ago, I put poison control in my phone under contacts for the juuuuuust in case scenario. Juuuuuust in case day had arrived.

"My 2 year old just swallowed up to 4mL of a liquid glycerin suppository"

"What is the child's name?"

Her name? Really? Would the poison remedy protocol different if her name was Molly?

Long story short, if your name is Corinne,  you may experience an upset stomach and if you have trouble breathing, contact 911.

I don't know what Molly would experience.

Apparently, another side effect is that you feel a strong urge to climb into things:

Like a closet:

Or you brother's crib (she climbed into it all by herself):

While my child was poisoning herself, I organized two bathroom closets:

I got rid of two trash bags full of expired stuff and unused crap like this:

And reorganized/relabeled tubs:

Boom.

Breakfast

Corinne has discovered a perk of Evan's high chair sitting right next to hers. Whatever she doesn't want to eat, she puts on Evan's tray. Evan will eat it. Right now, he eats everything. Including many things that aren't food.

Those apricots on Evan's tray? A gift from his sister.

Bike ride and a tea party

I took the bike trailer ($80 Craigslist find, after talking her down from $125, holla!) on it's maiden voyage today. It was much much harder to bike up inclines, but I guess that means I got a good workout.

Both kids ended up falling asleep while holding hands (holy crap I melt), so it looks like they enjoyed it. When we got home I threw them both in the shower with me. I usually hold Evan in the shower but because I had both of them, I sat him on the floor where Corinne proceeded to "wash" his hair with shaving cream. Little man was not too impressed.

After the shower I fed them, then Evan passed out, so Corinne and I had a tea party. With real M+Ms. Whoever said they "melt in your mouth not your hand" Is seriously misguided.

Obviously, they never saw a toddler eat M+Ms. Obviously.

Then, Corinne needed to clean her kitchen.

And Evan slept on....

10 months

Evan is just starting the game where he likes to hand things to us. And to him, it is the funniest thing ever. Actually most stuff is funny to him. If I say his name or even look at him, he laughs.

He has two bottom teeth which are on their way in (I'm pretty sure). So his sleep has gone to crap lately.

We had his iron levels rechecked at he was at 13 (he needed to be at least 11) which is really good. I was surprised because I suck at giving him his iron drops medication and he sucks at keeping them in his mouth and swallowing. So instead I've been trying to give him foods with iron it it since we all know the boy loves to eat.

Crawling is so.close. SO close. In juggling (according to M), when you can get all balls around/up in the air at least two times, it's called juggling. However if you can only get them around once, it's called joggling. Evan is joggling. He'll crawl forward with three limbs but can't quite get that fourth limb to crawl forward.

He's in the throes of separation anxiety, so it will be nice when he can start crawling so he can follow me around.

He's still not able to pull himself up, and I notice that when he does stand (with help), he tends to bend at the waist. So it looks like he has low tone in his core. Hopefully once he starts crawling, he can build that muscle up.

Nailed It

About two months ago, I went to a play group at a fellow Mom's house. I noticed that she has the coolest height measuring chart I've ever seen. It looked like a classic ruler, but a huge one. She said her husband made it.

Well if her husband can make it, so can I.

After a bit if online researching, I found out that the font used on classic rulers is Century.

One board, a small can of stain (which matches our furniture), and an industrial sharpie later, this appeared:

The industrial sharpie or paint pen is key. The board ate regular sharpies for breakfast.

Up to my elbows in crap (literally)

Saturday morning started off like any other. I was making cupcakes for a BBQ party we were attending that afternoon (toddler free!) When I started hearing water. Lots of water. Matt opened up the basement door and we quickly discovered the source of the water. A pipe had broken in the ceiling of the basement. Problem was, it wasn't just a water pipe. No, it was the sewer outflow pipe. Raw sewage was spilling into the basement. The finished basement with drywall and paint and carpet and furniture. The ceiling drywall had broken and it was bowing in other other places where the water was cascading down. We used Corinne's kiddy pool to collect the cascading sewage. I need to get her another kiddie pool.

We called many plumbers, but being a Saturday (why do these things always happen on the weekend?), one out of the 5 or so we called could come out that day. We also had a water restoration company come out to take care of the damage.

The fixing of the pipe was easy enough. A bit of glue and a strap. However, the plumber noticed that the water was moving a bit slow and decided to snake the pipe for us. When we bought the home, we were told (and it was in the house paperwork) that our home was the only one on sewer. Everyone else was on septic. While the plumber was snaking the line, he noticed that it went into a spetic tank. Septic? Eh?

Apparently, we were lied to by the previous owners. We are on septic, not sewer. And the septic was close to overflowing. Thankfully the plumber caught it before it did. It had maybe another month so.

So, for three days, we were without use of sinks/showers/toilets. It sucked. But, $13,000 later, we are now on sewer and not on septic. The county charged almost $7k for the privilege of connecting to the sewer pipe that was already in our backyard. The pipes must be gold lined or something.

Thankfully, insurance is going to cover the basement damage. I'm thinking we may do a bit of an upgrade when we get a contractor out here to fix the basement. I wasn't a huge fan of the carpet in the basement, so maybe a tile or laminate would be nice.

Oh, and that BBQ we were supposed to go to? Didn't happen. Instead we gave the cupcakes to the plumber. He was very happy.

Bathtime

Because there are few things cuter than naked babies.

Here, have a taste. Red is delicious.

Corinne is doing laps:

Corinne has never really been much of a splasher. However, Evan is. And Corinne is a mimic-er. This means that she watches him splashing and then copies. This results in lots of water everywhere.

I asked her to give me the "A". She successfully identified the "A" out of all the letters/numbers in the bathtub and gave it to me. Smart kid ;)

Little Man's little man

Evan had his recircumcision appointment today. Despite the over zealous nurse telling me no breastmilk for a whopping 12.5 hours prior to surgery (eff that, I fed him 6 hours prior and just lied when asked) and the anesthesiologist smelling like a pack of Marlboros, it went well and the result is nice. He had adhesions on the tip, so even with the foreskin pulled back, you could only see half the tip.

We were in the pre op room for about 1.5 hours, allowing Evan to take a nice nap in the Ergo after hotly protesting being force fed Tylenol.

They let me taken him to the OR and they gave him laughing gas to go to sleep. Once he was asleep, I went back to the post Op room to wait for him. After he was asleep they gave him a shot of something that started with a "C" in his spine which numbed the area from his belly button to his thighs.

About 30-40 minutes later, after he was awake they brought him to me to nurse. He wasn't a happy camper, but ate a bit and promptly fell back asleep.

We waited there for about an hour while they went over discharge stuff and checked his vitals. He responded by taking a huge crap.

He cried the whole way home. We had to make a stop off at Home Depot to buy a toilet since the kids' bathroom toilet busted a tank leak this morning, causing water on the floor to pour through the overhead lights on the first floor. This happened an hour before we left this morning. I put him in the ergo in the store and he was one happy dude.

I've kept him drugged up on Tylenol, so he was quite cheery this afternoon and evening.

Since the tip is exposed to more air and sensations, whenever I change him and lube him up with Vaseline, he gets a boner and pees everywhere. Lovely.

It's at times like these...

It's at times like these that I'm reminded I need to get a DustBuster handheld.

Bed head

I finally washed Evan's hair for the first time in about a week and a half. Without the natural oils weighing it down, he rocked a serious case of bed head this morning.

#ShitMyKidBroke

Granted, the cake WAS really good, and she gave it her all at trying to get to it.

It's days like this when I think I am nuts for even entertaining the idea of a third kid.

The funny part is that about 6 months ago I had two of these. I thought "I'm never going to need two glass cake stands", so I gave one to goodwill. I really liked this one because it also doubled as a punch bowl.

"Cake stand" is now on my shopping list.
